Chosen Idea: The Ugly Duckling

Feedback: Can add more characters at the start because only got the swan at the ending half.

Figure 1.3
Noise reduction (25/06/25)

  • To eliminate the background wind or air conditioning noise from my room, I used the noise reduction effect.
  • By selecting an area with only the air conditioning sound, going to Effects> Noise reduction (Process) > Capture Noise Print > CTRL+A (Select all) > reduce the noise reductions to 63% and the dB to 14.5.
Figure 1.4
decreasing dB (25/06/25)
  • To remove any breathing or unwanted sounds, I just selected the area and reduced the dB until I couldn't hear it anymore.

Figure 1.5
deEsser (25/06/25)

  • I used the de-esser function to reduce the sibilance in my speech.

Pitch Shifter (25/06/25)

  • Even though I changed my voice for the dialogue, I still feel as if it should be more childlike.

sound effects nd BGM (25/06/25)

  • I got most of my sound effects from Pixabay or Freesound. I edited some of the sounds, like the bird chirping, and there were background sounds of trees, so I used noise reduction to remove them.
  • Most of them, I edited the volume to be either softer or louder, or gradually becoming softer or louder.
  • The ending BGM, I stretched the sound a bit to match the story.

  • I used AI to create the images for the story and used Canva to arrange them into book book-type format.
  • I made sure the AI images are like cartoons since this is technically a children's book.

REFLECTION

For this project, I find it quite interesting to experiment with different voices for storytelling, which reminds me of my English classes back in secondary school. I got to use what I learned in English class and this class. For Sonic design skills, I managed to use the skills I learnt from Project 1, which was an auditory imaging project for the sound effects. The lesson on noise reduction was also very helpful, as it made my work way more efficient. I believe I could've been more creative with the way I voiced the dialogue, but I personally could not do it even when I tried.
