Project 1
JUMPLINK
Introduction- My Idea is a roadway-themed design where as shown in Figure 1.3, It is a road leading to the steps with added graphics for each.
- I chose this as the shape design of the road as it isn't too messy and hard to follow.
- These are my sketches based on the inspiration above.
- These are some of the other ideas.
- These are backup ideas in case the road idea doesn't work well.
- I created the graphics in Adobe Illustrator first as it is much more convenient and visually pleasing.
- I created the shapes using the pen tool and the colors were chosen based on the original poster.
- I used online photos as inspiration for these graphics.
- after completing the graphics for the poster, I added the 'Z' shaped roads based on the color.
- I added a guild as the side to prepare the design to be moved to InDesign for the typography.
- I transferred the design to Indesign to create the typography.
- I added guilds and adjusted the graphics based on the guilds.
- I chose the color of the background and title to be lighter to put more emphasis on the graphics and typography.
- Sir's feedback suggested that my graphic is fine but the layout of the information does not match
- It is too simple and sir suggested to align the words with the graphic or I could put the graphic in the middle and go from there.
- I decided to use Adobe Aftereffects because it would be a simple animation with no need for frame-by-frame.
- First, I change the names of all the layers in Adobe Illustrator to make it easier to navigate in After Effects.
- Then I transferred the file to After Effects.
- I adjusted the position for the graphics that I wanted animated.
- I used both rotation and position tools to animate the final poster.
- I proceeded to use the same adobe after effects to create a 20-second loop video of the animation.
- Sir says the animation is fine and that the graphics just need to be a little faster.
REFLECTION
For this project, we were tasked with finding an infographic poster that lacked visual appeal and redesigning it to improve its clarity and aesthetics. I chose a road design theme and created custom graphics in Illustrator to enhance the overall look. This process was time-consuming, but I genuinely enjoyed it because it had been a while since I last used Illustrator. It felt great to revisit the software and refine my vector design skills.
The next challenge was animating the infographic in After Effects. Since I hadn't used After Effects in a long time, I had to relearn many functions, which was initially overwhelming. However, as I progressed, I started to recall techniques and became more comfortable navigating the software. The animation process required patience and experimentation, but it ultimately helped me improve my motion design skills.
Looking at the final result, I feel satisfied with how the redesign and animation turned out. The project pushed me to revisit tools I hadn't used in a while, and I appreciate the opportunity to challenge myself creatively. Moving forward, I’d like to continue practicing both Illustrator and After Effects to further refine my workflow and efficiency.
