REFLECTION

Experience
learning typography was overall a very interesting experience. i got to walk through the process of creating layouts and expressions and even got to create my own font. this class thought me to record my processes into my e-portfolio neatly and helps me to scroll through my process and how much i've improved the designs as well as help me remember feedback and ways to make my design better. this helped me a lot as i tend to procrastinate a lot and would eventually forget the feedback i received during class so i really appreciated the constant reminder to write down any feedback given by Mr Vinod. the assignments took a lot of patience, especially with kerning and letterspacing as it was way too small to see sometimes. i got to look into the smaller things about font design like the punctuation which i wasn't aware had rules in how to design them.

Observation
i think because of kerning, letterspacing and creating letterforms, this module really helped improve my observation skills as it takes a lot of focus to check the letterspacing and how much kerning is needed in a paragraph. creating letterforms also took a lot of observation as for my font design, i had to make sure every curve was smooth and that any extra stroke was properly aligned with the rest of the letterform. i had to squint my eyes to make sure that there is a sufficient amount of letter spacing in between each letter for readers to read my design comfortably. in my e-portfolios, i can see how much improvements i made throughout my design process and how the smallest details make a very big difference in the overall design and readability.

Findings
i always followed my own instincts to where to place my designs on the page instead of creating guides and grids because i believed it would be simpler and more efficient but i found out that creating guilds and grids is actually the simpler and for efficient way, not to mention that it would be more aligned. i didnt think i would enjoy typography as it had nothing much to do with my main interest but it is actually quite enjoyable and satisfying to create your own layout design or font design.
